Five back-to-school hairstyles

Olivia Richardson

It’s that time of year when the air gets colder, the leaves get crisper and everybody seems to get  busier. In a few short weeks, a new school year will be under way which means more time is spent worrying about the latest project than the latest hairstyle. Here are five easy hairstyles that will keep every busy college girl looking trendy.

Class

It happens to all of us- you hit snooze a few more times than you should, and you’re supposed to be at class in ten minutes. Trendy headbands and head wraps are the perfect thing to use when you’re in a pinch and don’t have time to wash your hair. Just throw on your favorite headband, and twist your hair up into a high messy bun. You’ll look cute, casual and be ready to hit the books!

Going Out

Everybody is returning to Ames and looking for a reason to socialize. Reuniting with your college friends is exciting, and this is the perfect chance to show off a new hair style. One super easy way to do this is by switching your part. If you typically part your hair on the side, part it down the center or vice versa. Use a flat iron or wand to add soft face framing waves and you’re set for a night out.

Lazy Sunday

A loose side braid is the perfect hairstyle for lounging around your apartment or studying at Parks Library. It takes minimal time (because who wants to try on a Sunday?), yet you don’t look like a slob. Feel free to spice up the braid with any fun hair accessories you have.

Interview

Who has time to worry about hair when preparing for a big interview? You want to choose a hairstyle that looks professional and not over the top. A sock bun is the perfect solution to this. You’ll look put together and sleek within minutes. Find an old tube sock and cut the top off; roll it into a donut shape. Then, slick your hair back into a high ponytail. Simply place the tip of your ponytail into the hole of the sock you just used and roll it to the base of the ponytail. Secure it with bobby pins.

Football Games

Iowa State football is the most exciting time of year for many students. There’s a lot of tailgating, food and, of course, Cyclone spirit. Students love to show their pride by sporting cardinal and gold clothing, so why not add flare to your hair as well? There are many ways to do this, so it’s a perfect time to show off your personality! One way is to attach a yellow flower to a red sequin headband. Style your hair around the accessory however you would like and you’re ready to cheer on the Cyclones!
