The No. 13 Cyclones (11-10-1) were prepared to come out fast and continue their success on the ice against No. 16 Central Oklahoma (10-8-0) after sweeping West Virginia in their previous series.

Iowa State got on the board first with a goal from sophomore forward Trevor Lloyd at 2:56 in the first period.

The Cyclones remained on the attack, scoring again at 9:20 in the first on a goal by junior forward Jon Feavel on a slick pass from junior forward Chris Cucullu.

The Bronchos responded with a goal of their own at 11:53, slipping the puck past junior goalie Scott Ismond.

The first period ended with the Cyclones in the lead 2-1.

The second period was heading towards a scoreless endeavor until Central Oklahoma knocked the puck past Ismond on a power play goal at 12:07, evening the score at 2-2.

Neither Iowa State nor Central Oklahoma was able to get on the board again in the second and the period concluded with the two teams at a 2-2 deadlock.

The deadlock continued into the third period until the Cyclones broke the tie with a goal from sophomore forward James Buttermore at 10:31 in the period, giving Iowa State the 3-2 lead.

The Bronchos were quick to respond, however, scoring a goal at 11:22 in the third and bringing the game back to a tie at 3-3.

Once again, neither team could break the tie in regulation and the game headed to overtime.

After a scoreless overtime, the teams headed to a shootout.

The two teams each began the shootout with four scoreless shooters until Central Oklahoma finally slipped one past goalie Scott Ismond to seal the 4-3 victory.

The two teams meet again Saturday night at 8 p.m. at the Ames/ISU Ice Arena.
