After defeating Iowa State in overtime in the game Friday, Oct. 5, Arizona State was ready to compete again on Saturday.

Arizona State came out fast in the second game of the weekend series, scoring the first goal of the match at 8:36 in the first period.

At the end of the first period, Arizona State held the 1-0 lead with goalie Corey Frank stopping 10 of 10 shots from the Cyclones. In addition, ISU goalie Scott Ismond thwarted 17 of 18 attempts from Arizona State.

The second period appeared relatively uneventful until the five-minute mark, when Arizona State found the back of the net and tallied its second goal of the game. The period ended with Arizona State leading 2-0.

Iowa State was on its way to a scoreless game when Antti Helanto put the Cyclones on the board with their first goal of the match, slipping the puck past the Arizona State goalie.

The two goals for Arizona State proved sufficient, however, and Arizona State took the second game of the series 2-1, completing the sweep.

Arizona State goalie Corey Frank stopped 22 of 23 attempts from Iowa State, while ISU goalie Ismond stopped 43 of 45 shots from the opponents.

The Cyclones will be back on the ice on Friday, Oct. 12, when they take on the North Iowa Bulls in Ames at 7:30 p.m.
