It was deja vu for the No. 10 ISU volleyball team Friday evening as it opened its season with a victory against Cincinnati for a second consecutive season.

After beating the Bearcats 3-1 to open the 2011 season, the Cyclones (1-0) knocked off Cincinnati (0-1) in straight sets Friday, 25-23, 25-18 and 25-20 to open the Comcast Lady Vol Classic in Knoxville, Tenn.

Senior setter Alison Landwehr had a match-high 39 assists for the Cyclones and junior libero Kristen Hahn led the team with 17 digs.

Three of the team’s seven freshmen saw playing time in the three sets, including right side Mackenzie Bigbee, setter and outside hitter Andie Malloy and libero Caitlin Nolan. Bigbee provided the biggest spark, contributing 11 kills in 20 attempts.

The Cyclones will play two matches Saturday against two highly-ranked opponents, No. 12 Florida State and No. 15 Tennessee. Action begins at 11 a.m. with the second match at 6:30 p.m.
