Letter to the editor: Knight’s service has improved GSB

Stephen Veit

The Government of the Student Body is holding elections Monday and Tuesday. Students must vote because GSB is an asset to everyone and is often overlooked. I will offer some personal insight on the candidate that I will be voting for.

Jared Knight and I have known each other for two years. We share the common bond of political action, pre-law ambitions and a passion for political science. Jared and I have been a part of Liberal Arts and Sciences Ambassadors, Government of the Student Body and various pre-law organizations together. In this time, I noticed that Jared took the group tasks and made them more than an obligation.

Knight was the first to offer help if you couldn’t make a meeting or event and his leadership style is conducive to respect and approachability. Knight is perhaps the busiest student I am aware of on campus but still finds time to ballroom dance and energetically campaign. Jared went above and beyond what a normal student would give to a student organization and took this passion to GSB.

In the last year, GSB has updated its transparency and student organization funding practices. Being a president of an organization, I know firsthand how tedious and overwhelming GSB seems, and often it felt like it wasn’t there to help. Dakota Hoben and Jared Knight encouraged GSB members to attend the organizations they were funding and GSB did just that. This provided a face to the nameless, faceless, behind-the-scenes group that many students didn’t actually feel represented by.

I am confident that Jared is seeking the president position for the right reasons, and I know that the community and students can only benefit from having Jared Knight be the face of ISU. I will endorse Knight-Brown because they are right for Iowa State, and I urge my fellow students to vote likewise.
