The ISU wrestling team forfeited its 125-pound match to start the night Friday and went on to lose eight of its 10 matches to Minnesota, 34-6.

The No. 19 Cyclones (0-7, 0-2 Big 12) would only win two matches — 165, 174 — against the No. 4 Gophers (4-2, 1-0 Big Ten) in the contest.

Starting the night at 125 pounds, Iowa State’s Ryak Finch forfieted his match that was set to be against the nation’s No. 1 wrestler, Zach Sanders.

Iowa State picked up its first victory at 165 pounds with No. 5 Andrew Sorenson. With the match tied 3-3 with 1:40 remaining in the third period, Sorenson got an escape to take the lead.

Sorenson went on to win the match 6-4 to remain undefeated on the season.

The other victory for the Cyclones came with No. 7 Chris Spangler at 174 pounds. Spangler beat No. 10 Logan Storley 5-3 for the Cyclones’ second and final victory of the night.

Iowa State will return to the mat Dec. 18 against Missouri in Columbia, Mo.
