GSB passes special allocation requests

The Government of the Student Body passed special allocation requests on Wednesday night.

The special allocations process allows for student organizations to request funds from GSB in the fall semester, and organizations are eligible for special allocations if they did not request regular allocations or if they have unforeseen expenses.

The first organization on the docket for special allocations was the ISU Recreational Hockey Club.

The Recreational Hockey Club came into the meeting asking for $5,128. The club stated that it did not have enough funds for equipment and ice time.

“Currently we do not have enough equipment to function; some people have their own equipment, but it is not enough,” said Michael Csiky, president of the ISU Recreational Hockey Club.

GSB was hesitant with funding the organization because of the fact that it is such a new organization.

Members of the board stated that in the past, new organizations had been funded and flopped after receiving GSB funding. In the end, GSB allotted $1,381 to the ISU Recreational Hockey Club.

The next organization was Trend Magazine.

Ivy Christianson, a representative for the magazine, said, “We are looking for funding to cover our printing costs for Trend.”

Christianson said the increase in funds for printing was because of the magazine’s increase in number of members, and with the increase of membership came the increase in the number of pages they had to print. GSB allotted $2,595.30 to Trend Magazine and Trend accepted the offer.
