GSB meeting addresses CyRide budgets

The director for CyRide spoke to the Government of the Student Body about the $250,000 budget deficit CyRide has accumulated.

Sheri Kyras, director of CyRide, said the CyRide Board of Trustees budgeted $2.50 per gallon of gas for the year, but the current projected price of fuel is $3.05 per gallon.

Kyras said another factor contributing to the debt is CyRide’s flood insurance premiums increased $57,000 due to the flood last fall.

Kyras said the CyRide trust fund is doing well, however.

She said the fund, which is currently at about $1.2 million, is expected to increase by $400,000 by the end of the university’s fiscal year.

Kyras also mentioned the bus tracking project that GSB and CyRide have been working on.

The system will be used by punching in a number ID, which is on the bus signs to CyRide via smartphones, Web or telephone, and the system would then tell the rider how long it would be until the next bus arrives.

CyRide is currently looking for a new bid for the bus tracking system.

GSB also passed three bills.

The “Yee Haw, it’s time to celebrate!” Group was looking for additional funding.

College of Agriculture has already given the group $1,000.

The “Takes Two to Tango” event consists of a tango performance, lecture and dancing class. The group is asked for $1,900.

The “Who turned out the lights?” rodeo group is looking to replace a panel box in order to get their lights up and working again. The group is asking for $3,200.
