Digital Media: Graphic Designer

Graphic designers will be responsible for the overall look and feel of all of the Daily’s web and mobile products, as well as all of the advertising and marketing that appears on the Daily’s websites, mobile apps and tablet presentations. Designers will also work with the Daily’s PR department to plan, schedule and design in-house promotions that tie into the Daily’s Digital Media projects.

Knowledge:

  • Proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite 5 programs (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Flash Catalyst, Dreamweaver, etc.)
  • Basic understanding of HTML and CSS
  • Understanding of basic design philosophy and its application in a visual communications environment
  • Willingness to learn about, and practice, good visual communication best practices in order to serve the Daily’s various communities
  • Desire and understanding that ongoing research/education drives what the Digital Media Department represents at the Daily

Experience:

  • Portfolio of your body of design work is required
  • Strong knowledge/understanding of the design and proofing workflow and why it’s important in a deadline-driven environment
  • Experience designing page layouts, advertisements and the flexibility to adapt one presentation to the other
  • Working in a strong team-driven environment

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Digital Media Adviser and the Director of Digital Media to maintain a consistent functionality/brand of the Daily’s digital products
  • Assist in the brainstorming, planning, development and implementation of new web and digital media products to be used by the Daily and its communities
  • Work with digital media account executives to develop advertising campaigns for Daily clients
  • Constantly monitor the Daily’s digital products — correct or alert the appropriate person to problems with navigation, displays and content
  • Other responsibilities as delegated by the Digital Media Director or the Director of Digital Media

Reports to: Graphic designers report to Director of Digital Media. They will also work closely with the Online Editor on special projects, but will not directly report to this person.
