Cyclones blank Panthers for second win

The ISU soccer team finished off a clean sweep of the weekend following its 2-0 victory over the Northern Iowa Panthers.

After a scoreless first half, in which Iowa State outshot Northern Iowa 10-0, the Cyclones finally found the back of the net when junior Amanda Nimtz took a Jordan Bishop pass from the left side of the goalkeeper and slammed it home. Bishop and junior Lauren Odino were credited with assists on the play.

The Cyclones would not relinquish that lead despite the immense pressure from the UNI front line.

“Things got a little heated out there towards the end,” said ISU coach Wendy Dillinger.

Nimtz made sure the Panthers would not tie it up when she netted her second goal of the game with just under 10 minutes to play. Senior Leslie Hill was credited with the assist to Nimtz after she hit her with a long pass from the sideline.

Iowa State outshot Northern Iowa 22-5 overall in the game. With the win, the Cyclones evened their record at 2-2 for the season.
