The ISU swimming and diving team lost its home meet with Kansas this weekend, falling 188-106.

The loss dropped the Cyclones to 0-4 in the Big 12.

Friday night the Cyclones quickly fell behind 109-31. The team did see success, however, in Marni Benson and Lindsay Wegner, who both swam to second-place finishes in their events – the highest placings for the Cyclones that night.

But as a precursor to the weekend, the second place finishes didn’t add up to a lead.

Benson came in second in the 50-meter backstroke with a time of 27.74 seconds, and later tied with freshman Anjelica Nixt for second place in the 50-meter breaststroke at 30.69 seconds.

There were some bright spots Saturday, as the day’s events were opened by honoring seniors Lindsay Wiesner and Emily Welborn for their four years’ worth of achievements on the team.

Back in the pool, Benson and Wegner swam well again on day two, both picking up second place finishes again.

Benson continued her success in the breaststroke, adding a runner-up finish in the 150-meter race to her second place finish in the 50-meter breaststroke on Friday.

On the diving board, Tien Tran was able to take first place in the 3-meter dive with a final score of 287.48.

Despite the efforts of the Cyclones, Kansas was able to capture the win 188-106.

But the team is still focusing on the positives, using the meet as preparation for the Big 12 Championships at the end of this month.

“The meet turned out how I thought it was going to,” said dive coach Jeff Warrick.

“We are just going to keep going from here and really prepare for the Big 12 championship meet in two weeks.”
