Kiel Uhl placed fourth overall with a time of 24 minutes, 33 seconds to lead Iowa State to a third-place team finish at the Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis on Saturday.

Uhl, in his first race of the season, led the way as both the men’s and women’s teams finished higher than Big 12 rival Missouri for the first time in more than a decade.

Lisa Koll, also running for the first time this year, finished with a time of 21:09, taking second to Virginia’s Emily Harrison. Grace Kemmey was third with a time of 22:46. The Cyclones took ninth with 216 points.

“I was even more happy about the women’s team . we beat several Big 12 teams today and I think that should give our team confidence when they go to the Big 12 meet,” coach Corey Ihmels said in a press release.

Next up, Iowa State will head to Terre Haute, Ind., on Oct. 13 for the pre-National meet.
