The Government of the Student Body met Wednesday night and updated the ISU community on a big event happening all next week on campus.

Daniel Fischer, director of government relations for GSB and junior in agricultural business, said Political Action Week will be held next week on Central Campus, Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Each day will be dedicated to a different aspect of political and domestic issues, including national issues as well as local ones. It will include presentations by candidates, elected officials and faculty, and will be followed by discussions with the audience.

This is the second year Political Action Week has taken place on the ISU campus, so many of the events that will take place this year will be based on the same model as last year. In addition to speakers such as Iowa Secretary of State Michael Mauro and representatives from the presidential campaign sharing their insights, lunch will be available for $1.

Fischer said he has been involved in the process for putting together this event since last April, along with Devin Hartman, vice president of ActivUs and senior in political science.

“We’re hoping it turns out as well as last year,” Fischer said.

Maggie Luttrell, GSB ex-officio City Council liaison and junior in history, said the city of Ames will be hosting a Youth and Shelter Services and Community and Family Resources open house tour and reception Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. at 420 Kellogg Ave. Next week, in honor of the Iowa State’s Sesquicentennial celebration, events will be held throughout the Ames community to commemorate the occasion.
