Though Spoon’s sixth disc, “Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga” lacks in creative guitar melodies and complex musical movements, the band’s interesting rhythmic choices and sometimes stunning vocals keeps the listener from being completely bored with the repetitive guitar strums and lack of any soloing whatsoever.

“Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga” takes its name from the pounding piano chords from track two, “The Ghost of You Lingers.” The desperate and haunting vocals over the simple piano chords and carefully timed random ambient noises wouldn’t be anything special by themselves, but the way they all fit together flawlessly makes this song stand out more than other songs on the album. The way lead singer Britt Daniel yelps out, “I had a nightmare that they could be put back together,” makes the lyrics sound like they are coming from a lonely, echoing room somewhere far from where the singer wants to be.

The rest of the songs are similar enough in sound that if the listener was sleeping while listening to the album – which wouldn’t be difficult because of the repetitive rhythms – they really wouldn’t notice any difference in the songs if they woke up and listened periodically.

Because Spoon has such a loyal and committed fan base, this album will probably sell well and be enjoyed by their hardcore fans, but those who are new to Spoon will not be too impressed by the band’s latest release.
