Bill Burr

Before graduating from elementary school, Burr embraced his love of laughter and decided to be a comedian.

According to his Web site, Bill Burr grew up in a large family outside of Boston and spent his childhood laughing at his comical father.

Burr has performed at numerous clubs throughout the country, as well as colleges, including the University of Michigan, the University of Illinois and the University of Michigan.

His television appearances include “Law and Order: Criminal Intent,” “Townies,” “Two Guys and a Girl” and the “Colin Quinn Show.” His movie appearances include “Perfect Fit” and “Passionatta.”

Additionally, Burr has been featured on the “Howard Stern Show” and now performs in more than 300 shows annually.

“He has made a name for himself after he performed on HBO and several late night shows,” said Nathan Katzer, Veishea Entertainment Committee co-chairman and senior in public service and administration in agriculture.

What:

Burr will perform at the Comedy Show, which is free.

This year the show will be co-sponsored by First Amendment Day committee and the Committee on Lectures.

The Comedy Show will consist of three opening acts performed by Barry Crimmins, Barantunde Thurston and Tina Dupuy. Katzer said people who enjoy satire, current events and politics are sure to enjoy the show.

Where:

The Comedy Show will take place in Stephens Auditorium. Seating will be limited and is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Admission begins immediately after the Stars Over Veishea production of “The Music Man.”

When:

Opening acts will begin at 11 p.m. Friday and the show will conclude at 1 a.m.

Why you want to see him:

“Veishea is dedicated to bringing in quality speakers, and we share that same intent with the Committee on Lectures and the First Amendment Day committee,” Katzer said.

“Our mutual relationship has resulted in the Veishea Comedy Show, a free event with attractive names and quality performers.” He moves fast and is very high-energy. His entertainment is edgy, witty and keeps you on the edge of your seat.”

Burr was selected to try to hit on the interests of the majority of students said Kelsi Mehmen, Veishea Entertainment Committee co-chairwoman and senior in agricultural business.
