GSB votes to cover transportation to concert

The Government of the Student Body will fund transportation to the 10,000 Hours Show concert for eligible members.

Nathaniel Oster, assistant director of grassroots of the 10,000 Hours Show and senior in materials engineering, said the group was pleased to see the bill pass because the organization wanted to keep this concert free of charge to eligible students.

“It really is important to us to have this service for the students,” he said.

Adam Krupicka, GSB senator and graduate student in biochemistry, biophysics and molecular biology, said the bill’s passing was a good thing.

Krupicka, who proposed funding the group at a lower rate, said he was going to vote for the group regardless of the amount.

“I generally prefer to meet groups at halfway,” he said.

Krupicka, a member of the finance committee, said he likes to help as many groups as possible that ask for money. Funding groups at 100 percent may sometimes hurt others, he said.

At Wednesday night’s meeting, Krupicka introduced an unfamiliar procedure known as creating a blank. Creating a blank allows senators to suggest the amount of money to fund on a proposed bill. Once the amounts are chosen, the senate votes on the new options until a majority is reached on one of the amounts.

The procedure was met with some confusion. After the new proposed amounts were voted on, the original amount of $900 still received the majority.

Despite the confusion surrounding creating a blank, Krupicka said it was a good decision to use it, as it would be more efficient in the future.

Thomas Danielson, GSB senator, junior in civil engineering and author of the bill, was happy with the outcome.

“I’m glad they got their funding,” he said.
