Return of Veishea eliminates need for LINC organization

The return of Veishea has brought about many new opportunities, but it has also ended a year-old committee developed during its absence.

Leaders INspiring Connections was a group created by the Veishea executive board following the violence in Campustown during Veishea 2004.

The organization, formerly headed by general co-chairpersons Kyle Chesnut and Ashley Glade, was responsible for many of the events held throughout the 2005 school year in place of Veishea. Some of these included a student singing competition entitled “Cyclone Idol,” playground building in the Ames community, a winter festival and the ISU theatre production of “The Secret Garden” through Stars Over ISU.

Veishea’s return to the Ames community has put the group out of work this year, however. The committee “This is Your April,” which was also created last year, worked in coordination with LINC, is still operating today.

“There really wasn’t a need for LINC this year,” said Eric Peterson, Veishea general co-chairman. He added that the “This is Your April” committee took over some of the planning that LINC was involved with.
