Daryle Vegge

Day job: Marketing at Sauer-Danfoss

Miscellaneous: Vegge obtained a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies from Iowa State. He coaches Ames Minor Hockey and has served on the Ames Parks and Recreation Commission and the Ames-ISU Ice Users Committee.

Russ Cross

Position: At-large representative

First elected: Jan. 1, 1998

Current term expires: Dec. 31, 2005

Day job: President of Wells Fargo Financial Preferred Capital

Miscellaneous: Cross obtained a bachelor’s degree in industrial administration from Iowa State. He serves as a liaison from the council to the Ames Economic Development Commission and is a member of the mini-board. Cross was the past president of the Ames Economic Development Commission and is currently serving on the Ames Boys and Girls Club Board.

Jim Popken

Candidate for the City Council at-large seat

Day Job: owns and operates Sculptor Inc.

Credentials: Popken is a founding board member of the Ames Neighborhood Coalition, Story County Community Land Trust and Ames Smart Growth. He also serves on the Emergency Residence Project and Ames Community Preschool Center.

Dan Rice

Candidate for the City Council first ward seat

Day job: Academic adviser for Liberal Arts and Sciences at Iowa State.

Credentials: Rice is a former planning and zoning commission member. He is also a member of the Commission on Improving Relations Among ISU Students, the University, the City of Ames and the Ames Community.

Robin Habeger

Candidate for City Council first ward seat

Day job: Director of business and partnership development at Iowa State’s College of Business

Credentials: Habeger holds two masters degrees from Iowa State in business administration and community and regional planning. She served on the Ames Zoning Board of Adjustment for five years (three years as chairwoman), worked as an intern with Story County Planning and Zoning and served as the Zoning Administrator for Marshalltown while she worked for the Region 6 Planning Commission. She worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation for nearly six years dealing with long-range planning.

Jon Shelness

Candidate for Ames mayor

Day job: Youth counselor at Woodward Academy

Credentials: Shelness is a volunteer GSB representative on the Analysis of Social Services Evaluation Team and a youth soccer coach. He has been active in the keg ordinance and Veishea riot commission and task force meetings.

Ann Campbell

Candidate for Ames mayor

Day Job: Retired

Credentials: Campbell served on City Council representing the third ward for four straight terms (16 years). She is a transit board member and a member of the Commission on Improving Relations Among ISU Students, the University, the City of Ames and the Ames Community. She is involved with the Heartland Senior Center and Reiman Gardens.

Ryan Doll

Candidate for City Council third ward seat

Day job: ISU student

Credentials: Doll was an organizer of the special election last spring and member of the Government of the Student Body. He was recognized last year as GSB senator of the year and will graduate from Iowa State in December with a bachelor’s degree in political science.
