The future of the Memorial Union was discussed at the Government of the Student Body meeting Wednesday night.

T.J. Schneider, GSB president said there was a recommendation last spring to add a $15 fee per student for a renovation of the MU. The renovation of the independently owned and operated building would cost around $15 million.

Under the current structure, there is no way to bond,Œ Schneider said. After some deliberation, we began talking with the university and worked it to a point where we¡re allowing the university to gain control of the building and the land.Œ

He said the students, alumni and faculty will still have a board of directors controlling procedures and policies.

Also, the university has agreed that they will work to make the Memorial Union one of their top funding priorities,ΠSchneider said.

The MU was constructed by friends of the university and the original contract states when all debts are paid the facility will become university property.

Schneider said this project is still being worked on and the MU is about $4.5 million in debt. The decision will be voted on at the next MU board of directors meeting.

GSB also appointed Kedrin Moser deputy director of disabilities. She replaces Aaron Rubin, who resigned because his GPA did not meet the minimum required by the GSB constitution.

Right now, I¡m going over what Aaron was working on,Œ Moser said. He was working on a project that would provide funds for students with disabilities to join activities.Œ

Joe Darr, GSB vice president, received the resignation of Katharine Gordon, graduate senator, and the bill to remove her from senate was dismissed.

Ravi Vasikarla was seated as graduate senator in the vacant position.
