The ISU women golfers will be going into the Big 12 Championships on a hot streak.

After placing second at the Fighting Camel Invitational two weeks ago, the Cyclones finished in a tie for third in the Hawkeye Classic in Iowa City.

The three-round total of 920 put the Cardinal and Gold amongst a pack of Big 10 heavyweights.

Michigan was the eventual winner of the tournament with a final team score of 902.

Indiana finished well back of the Wolverines, but barely held on to the runner-up position at 919.

The Cyclones missed out on second by one stroke, which tied them with their interstate rivals from Iowa.

Noel Jacobusse wound up first for the ‘Clones, but barely missed out on top individual.

The ISU senior tied for second after Michigan’s Kim Benedict won a four-way playoff with Jacobusse, Michigan teammate Le Anna Wicks and Eastern Michigan player Kelly Pickett.

Jacobusse’s effort of 223 strokes was followed by Laura Wells, whose 228 gave her a share of eighth.

In her first competition of the year, Leanne Owens shot two rounds in the `70s before fading in the third round to finish at 235, tying for 23rd.

Seniors Cathy Ennis and Heather Elenbaas also finished in the top 50 of the field, with scores of 240 and 241, respectively.
