Clubfest answers questions

Students who are interested in Fellowship of Christian Athletes, have always wanted to join the American Civil Liberties Union, or just want to know what the Veishea committee does can find answers to all of their questions at “Clubfest ’99.”

Clubfest ’99 will be held today from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Great Hall and surrounding rooms in the Memorial Union and will feature more than 160 of Iowa State’s clubs and organizations in an event designed to educate the ISU community.

The annual event has been getting students involved for more than 10 years, said Laura Bestler, assistant director of Student Activities.

“Clubfest helps student organizations get in touch with students,” she said. “One thing we want students to consider is what organizations will help contribute to their overall education at Iowa State.”

Organization leaders go to Clubfest to “recruit members for their organization and get students involved,” Bestler said.

“Organizations really appreciate the opportunity for a large event like that,” she said.

Judy Dolphin, director of the ISU-YWCA, said Clubfest offers her the visibility to get to know ISU students.

“There is a good connection both ways,” she said. “I’ve met a lot of neat students through Clubfest.”

Bestler said organizations such as Veishea, Freshman Council and GSB will be there, along with religious, cultural and recreational groups.

Another organization that will be present at Clubfest ’99 is the Student Alumni Association. David Critchlow, assistant director of student activities at SAA, said the “purpose of attending Clubfest is to spread the word and let students know what the organization is.” He hopes as a result of the event, people will become educated about SAA and its activities.
