Since its closing on Monday, Clark Avenue has been inaccessible to through traffic in downtown Ames.

The street may be closed for up to two weeks, said Paul Wiegand, Public Works director for the city of Ames.

“Depending on what work is found to be completed, the Pacific Railroad officials indicated they may be set up for as long as two weeks,” he said.

According to a press release, railroad maintenance crews will be repairing railroad ties, rails and the crossing surface.

In addition to the railroad work, the city will take advantage of the closing to repair parts of the road.

“We will be doing some patching in the area between the Main and Clark crossing,” Wiegand said.

Although Clark Avenue is closed, access will be available to the central business district parking lot.

“All driveways to businesses will remain open,” Wiegand said.

The closing will inconvenience motorists, but it is possible to reach the downtown area using Kellogg Avenue or Duff Avenue, Wiegand said.
