Iowa State University Foundation is not only being recognized for stepping up its fund-raising efforts, but one of its members also received recognition.

Monica Porter, associate director of planned giving for the ISU Foundation, was honored for her hard work and dedication with the 1998 ISU Foundation Governor’s Award.

This award, which was presented to Porter on Sept. 18, is awarded yearly to a deserving ISU Foundation staff member.

ISU Foundation President Thomas Mitchell said Porter’s job consists of overseeing contributions from wills, trusts, estate provisions and all other planned giving.

Porter began working at the foundation 29 years ago, after having worked at the ISU Alumni Association during her senior year at ISU.

Porter said she is proud to be commended for her professionalism.

“It was very flattering,” Porter said.

She said her favorite part about working for the ISU Foundation has been the people she has befriended.

In Porter’s line of work, challenges always arise and there is never a dull day, she said.

“[We want to] grow so we can become the best,” she said. “I’m just going to keep working and continue to do the best job I can.”

Over the years, Porter’s skills and drive have impressed her co-workers at the ISU Foundation.

“Monica’s leadership and commitment have not gone unnoticed,” Mitchell said. “Over the years, Monica has made connections and strengthened many relationships that benefit ISU.”

Like Porter, Mitchell said, the ISU Foundation Governor’s Award has been awarded in the past to “recipients who have all exhibited leadership that strengthens the foundation,” Mitchell said.

Past recipients of the award include Murray Blackwelder, vice president for External Affairs; Phyllis Lepke, director of the giving program for ISU Foundation; and Bob Watson, ISU Foundation service development officer.
