A composite sketch of a man wanted in connection with the Feb. 24 nighttime carjacking of an Iowa State student was released Tuesday by the Department of Public Safety.

The suspect is described as a white male, about 6-feet tall, with a slender build, light brown wavy or slicked back hair and brown eyes.

DPS Director Loras Jaeger said no reward is being offered for information leading to apprehension of the suspect as of yet, but DPS is working with the administration to establish one. He said a decision should be made within the week.

The carjacking occurred in Lot 62 near Buchanan Hall as the student was sitting in his car while “warming up” the vehicle.

DPS officials said the suspect got the victim’s attention by tapping on the car window.

The suspect ordered the victim from his car but then pulled him out of the vehicle “as if he wasn’t getting out of the car fast enough,” DPS Captain Rob Bowers said.

Bowers said the suspect did not display a weapon at the scene, but he allegedly had his hand under his shirt as if he was hiding one.

The suspect and the vehicle, a white 1989 Chevrolet Beretta, were last seen the night of Feb. 24 heading east on Gable Lane.

DPS officials said the investigation is ongoing and are asking that anyone with information about the incident or suspect call them at 294-4428.

Due to the possibility of danger, officials are asking that people not try to approach the car if they see it or the suspect.

The victim’s name has not been released by DPS.
