A three-car pile-up on the northeast side of campus about noon Monday halted traffic and turned heads for hours.

No one was seriously hurt.

Department of Public Safety officials are investigating the accident, which occurred at the intersection of Pammel Drive and Haber Road. At the intersection, Haber Road runs under railroad tracks as a single-lane street before immediately before joining Pammel Drive.

According to officials, a blue 1993 Toyota Camry driven by Robert Hollinger, listed in the ISU Directory as an associate professor of philosophy, entered the intersection of Pammel and Haber heading north when it was struck by a gold 1996 Chevy Blazer traveling east on Pammel.

The Blazer was flipped on its top after impact and continued sliding east when it collided with a 1989 Ford Mustang driven by Scott Farris of Ames.

According to eyewitness accounts, Hollinger’s car entered the intersection after the light changed green and then was struck by the Blazer.

The driver of the Blazer, whose name was not immediately available, was allegedly traveling at a “high rate of speed” when the accident occurred, officials said.

Following the accident, the street was covered with remnants of tail lights, bumpers, windshields and fenders.

Total damage to the vehicles is estimated in the thousands of dollars. The Blazer received extensive damage after rolling on its roof and sides. The Mustang suffered less damage and only lost a headlight, while the Camry suffered damage to the front driver’s side.

No charges were filed as of press time Monday.
