Changes are in store for the 1996 Government of the Student Body elections.

GSB passed two bills before Thanksgiving break that call for procedural and date alterations.

One change would reserve the sixth week of the spring semester as Iowa State’s election week. Candidates for president, vice president, senators and other positions would be elected during one or more consecutive class days during that week.

Inaugurations for the newly elected officers would be conducted by the president by the Friday before Dead Week. The state Board of Regents and the ISU community would be invited to the ceremony.

The second bill declared Mar. 27 as the election date.

Scott Vinson, chief of staff, said this would allow time for the new executives to learn about their jobs from the current executives. Also, past election dates were close to other prominent events on campus, such as Veishea.

Students must still approve the proposed changes through a referendum.
