Ames will hold its annual Fourth of July fireworks show on Tuesday night.

Ames will be celebrating Independence Day with fireworks, a 5k and a parade July 3-4, sponsored by Downtown Ames.

Fireworks

Fireworks are expected to begin around 9:45 p.m. July 3 near Jack Trice Stadium, according to a press release. A map on Downtown Ames’ website shows parking will be available in lots A1-3, B2, C2, 85E, S3-8, G2 and G3.

“It is important to remember that lighting fireworks within Ames city limits is illegal,” stated a press release from Discover Ames. “Those who are caught exploding fireworks in Ames could face a simple misdemeanor charge with a minimum fine of not less than $250.”

Reiman Gardens will be open until the end of the fireworks. In case of rain, fireworks will be moved to July 5, according to Reiman Gardens’ website. In this case, they will not be open late for fireworks.

5k

At 9 a.m. July 4, Hayden Park will be the starting point for the Bill Bergan 5k on the 4th race and walk to benefit Friendship Ark Homes and Community Service. The 5k will begin at Hayden Park.

Parade

After the 5k, the Fourth of July Parade will begin at 11 a.m. on Main Street. There will be 70 businesses and organizations participating in the parade. Volunteers are still welcome to sign up online for both the parade and fireworks.
