The ISU women’s basketball team’s lack of depth was its undoing in Norman, Okla., on Saturday.

Iowa State (13-15, 5-12 Big 12) fell to No. 23 Oklahoma (19-9, 10-7 Big 12), 85-54, without guard Seanna Johnson, who is in Minnesota with her family after her father suffered a stroke. The depth-starved Cyclone defense allowed the Sooners to shoot 60 percent from the field.

The loss also ensured ISU coach Bill Fennelly’s second losing season in his 28-year coaching career. Iowa State only had two forwards on the bench and one guard, walk-on Lexi Albrecht. They combined for zero points.

That lack of depth was evident in the first half, as the Cyclones couldn’t get anything going early in the game, down 25-13 at the end of the first quarter.

But Johnson’s replacement in the starting lineup, sophomore Emily Durr, stepped up and attempted to keep Iowa State in the game. Durr put up 20 points in the first half, making five 3-pointers.

But the Sooners’ offense proved too much, as they led 41-32 at half.

As Durr’s unsustainable success started to dwindle in the second half, so did the Cyclones’ overall offensive success. Iowa State shot 30.4 percent and only put up 22 points. Durr had four points in the second half.

Oklahoma outscored Iowa State 16-12 in the final quarter to finish off the game.

Durr finished with a career-high 24 points on 8-of-17 shooting.
