It’s been rough sailing for the ISU women’s basketball team over the past month and a half, but it was hard to tell Wednesday night.

On its annual Pink Night, Iowa State (13-12, 5-9 Big 12) took home a huge 77-48 victory against Texas Tech (11-14, 2-12 Big 12) at Hilton Coliseum. It was Iowa State’s second win in its last 10 games.

The beginning of the game felt all too familiar for the Cyclones, as they found themselves down 8-2 after the Lady Raiders went on an 8-0 run. But Iowa State kicked it into another gear halfway through the period.

Iowa State rattled off 29 straight points between the first and second quarters and took a huge 44-13 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The monstrous ISU run was aided by Texas Tech’s poor shooting. The Lady Raiders went 13:33 without making a field goal and 9:40 without scoring a point. They also only mustered five points in the second quarter.

The Cyclones outscored the Lady Raiders, 23-20, in the third quarter to head into the fourth quarter up 67-33. The margin would’ve been larger if it wasn’t for a buzzer-beating, half-court shot from Texas Tech’s Ivonne Cooktaylor.

The Lady Raiders outscored the Cyclones, 15-10, in the final 10 minutes, but it wasn’t enough to overcome their dismal first half.
