It wasn’t a pretty night for the ISU women’s basketball team on the defensive end in Austin, Texas, against No. 4 Texas on Wednesday night.

Iowa State (10-4, 2-1 Big 12) could hardly stop the Texas (14-0, 3-0 Big 12) offense, as the Longhorns kept their perfect record alive with a 75-54 victory. Texas shot 41 percent from the field and 50 percent from 3-point range.

The Cyclones took the lead for the first 16 seconds of the game thanks to a Seanna Johnson 3 ball, but they relinquished it and never recovered. Texas went on an 18-3 run to take an early 18-6 lead.

Iowa State clawed back to trail by single digits in the second quarter, but Texas entered the half with a double-digit lead, 38-25.

Texas’ Brooke McCarty dropped a game-high 14 points in the first half on 4-of-5 shooting.

The Longhorns started to extend their lead even further in the second half and made four of their last five shots to end the third quarter. The exceptional shooting gave them a 53-35 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

But the poor defense didn’t go away for Iowa State. Texas opened the fourth quarter hitting five of its first seven shots, helping it run to a 22-point lead and seal the game.

Iowa State will be back in action at 7 p.m. Saturday against Kansas at Hilton Coliseum.
