The Cyclones took on Arizona State and Oklahoma in a triangular meet to wrap up its three game opening road trip on Friday night in Norman, Oklahoma.

The ISU Gymnastics team completed in a hard fought battle to try and continue its momentum from their road win last Saturday, although fell just short. The Cyclones took second place with a team score of 193.850, Oklahoma took first with 197.475, and Arizona State finished third with 193.325.

As it has been for the past three meets, Iowa State has consistently shown its best performance on the floor exercise. Sydney Converse had a career high, leading the team with a 9.875.

“I was pleased with our floor performance today, I feel like we’re getting a lot more consistent as we compete more often. And especially Sydney Converse did an amazing job,” said assistant coach Kristen Maloney in a release from the ISU athletic department.

Iowa State performed well on the vault, uneven bars and balance beam, but couldn’t seem to outperform the Sooners and Sun Devils.

Representing ISU in the all-around was Haylee Sievers and Meaghan Young. Sievers placed third with 39.000 and Young placed fifth with 38.600. Both scores were just short of the overall winner, Chayse Capps of Oklahoma who scored a 39.50.

Aside from tonight’s outcome, the gymnastics team still has the confidence to bounce back in their upcoming meet on Friday, Jan. 29 where Iowa State will compete against Lindenwood and North Carolina State.

“Based off of the week of practice that we had, which was awesome, I’m pretty disappointed in the performance that we had tonight,” said assistant coach Katie Minasola in the release. “We’re going to keep working hard and next week it’s going to be different.”
