The ISU men’s basketball team wasn’t swayed after falling by as much as 20 points against Iowa on Thursday night at Hilton Colisuem.

Launching 3’s and making crucial stops, Iowa State (8-0, 0-0 Big 12) came roaring back and won, 83-82, after a late-game floater from Monte Morris.

But for a while it looked like the ISU men’s basketball team was down and out.

The Hawkeyes led by as much as 20 in the game and couldn’t stop Iowa’s Jarrod Uthoff, who put up 30 points in the first half and went 11-of-13 from the field. He was especially hot from the 3-point line, finishing 5-for-6 from beyond the arc.

Going into halftime the Cyclones had 14 turnovers and trailed the Hawkeyes, 49-35.

Iowa State attempted to chip into Iowa’s lead early in the second half, but Iowa (7-3, 0-0 Big 10) kept making buckets to stay up by double digits.

But then came Hilton Magic.

The Cyclones came charging back and within single digits on a layup by Morris, who finished with 20 points and nine rebounds. Iowa State went on a 19-4 run in a span of nine minutes to pull within one, 71-70.

Iowa was still able to hold Iowa State at arm’s length until just under 30 seconds left. Morris drove to lane and threw up a floater that gave the Cyclones their first lead since 2:11 into the first half.

Uthoff couldn’t sink a basket as the time expired, and the Cyclones pulled off the comeback with the crowd rushing the court.

ISU forward Jameel McKay had 20 points on 10-of-12 shooting with 12 rebounds.
