The 5 time National Championship winning Iowa State Boxing Club, two of those titles being won in the past two years, had a their first fight night of the year last Thursday. The Boxing Club showcased 20 fighters for 10 fights, all being members of the Iowa State Club Boxing team.

“The fight night was really good exposure for the new people, overall I was proud of the guys and I see a bright future for the club.” said coach Jon Swanson.

The aim of the fight night was to give all the club members experience in a fight as they hope to one day be able the represent the Iowa State Boxing Club in the NCBA.

Fighters that competed in the showcase were, Anton Yochum, Luke Kliegl, Wage Miller, Seth Snavely, Dillon Waugh, Paige Field, Jared Diehl, Ian Carroll, Holly Adkins, Sekou Mtayari, Jacob Swoyer, Mandy Noethe, Camryn Linster, Yuen Yiu, Nicholas Reinert, Sarah Riese, Errol Pasia, Wesley Long, Taylor Rumph, and Joey Freichels.

No winners were declared in each of the fights, but it gave each fighter a sense of where they would place in a real fight.

“It was all really exciting. It was the first time I ever competitively boxed and so many people were here and it was a great atmosphere.” said 135-pound fighter, Jared Dihel. “My main goal is to get in a fight in the NCAB. Although, getting on that level of time commitment to be NCBA material is being here everyday.”

Coach Jon Swanson had nothing but good things to say about the up and coming members.

“I sent them a text afterward telling them how proud I am of them. They all did so well and I have high hopes for this club team moving forward.” said Swanson.

The Boxing Club has had continued success with their recent National Championships and Coach Swanson knows exactly what he wants to execute to have continued success.

“Showing up is important as well as conditioning. We are recognized as the best conditioned team and that has to continue.” Swanson stated. “In the end if you fall back on your training, you’ll be fine. Lastly, a family atmosphere is key.”
