After last week’s split against Kirkwood Community College, the ISU softball team was determined to come back strong.

After 10 innings of play the Cyclones achieved just that, beating Indian Hills Community College 8-6 on Monday.

The Warriors were off to a good start, scoring four quick runs in the first inning. That didn’t stop Iowa State, which used the next three innings to put six runs on the board.

The Warriors answered with two more runs in the top of the fifth inning, but the Cyclones were able to tack on one more run in the bottom of the fifth, tying the game.

Iowa State then held the Warriors scoreless in five straight innings, giving the team enough momentum for the win.

The Cyclones will hit the road for their first away game of the fall season this weekend, when they travel to South Dakota. Their double-header with the Coyotes will start at 2 p.m.
