It’s time for Iowa’s version of an NBA summer league to start up again.

The YMCA Capital City League allows local Iowa talent from Iowa State, Drake University, top local high schools and former high school basketball players to hone their skills during the summer season.

ISU fans will get their first opportunity to see a majority of the players on the 2015-16 ISU men’s basketball team compete this summer.

Ten of the 12 players on the ISU roster will participate in this year’s league. ISU fans will see familiar faces such as senior forward Georges Niang, junior guard Monté Morris and redshirt junior forward Jameel McKay. ISU fans will also have the opportunity to witness the new faces of the Cyclones.

The new players include redshirt junior transfer guard/forward Deonte Burton, transfer guard Nick Babb, community college guard commitment Jordan Ashton and committed guard Nick Noskowiak.

Redshirt sophomore guard Hallice Cooke will compete this year after recovering from double hip surgery, which is the same type of surgery senior guard Naz Long is rehabbing from.

Capital City also allows ISU fans to see what improvements the ISU basketball players have made during the offseason.

The YMCA Capital City League will tip off its season at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. The first game will feature the tandem of McKay and Babb for Team Walnut Creek YMCA against the duo of guard Matt Thomas and Noskowiak of Capital Orthopedics.
