ISU men’s track, field struggles at Drake Relays on Friday

ISU men’s track and field fielded three relay teams at the Drake Relays on April 24.

It wasn’t exactly the best performance.

The 4×100 relay didn’t have much luck, finishing 25th of 25 teams that competed with a time of 42.62 seconds. Three teams were disqualified and two did not start.

The 4×400 relay almost bested its personal record, finishing just .86 seconds slower than its 4:16.13 mark set at the Baldy Castillo Classic in Tempe, Ariz on March 20 and 21 but couldn’t beat the rest of the pack, finishing last among 28 teams.

The ISU favorite to win in the Drake Relays, the 4×800 relay, didn’t get the results it expected. Brandon Wheat went down with an injury in the first leg of the race and the Cyclones dropped to last place.

But indoor All-American Edward Kemboi came to save the day. Kemboi anchored the team to a sixth place finish, despite the cold weather.

The Cyclones will be back in action at 10 a.m. April 25 at Drake.
