Organic makeup provides benefits

With the green revolution in full swing, not only have more consumers switched to organic foods and cleaning products, but also to using organic health and beauty products. Although going green tends to be more expensive, the benefits are endless and for many users, these benefits outweigh the higher price tag.

For a cosmetic to be a genuine organic product, 95 percent of its ingredients must be organic. In addition, these ingredients must be extracted using natural methods. Organic makeup is free of synthetic chemicals, wax, irradiation, genetically modified organisms and artificial preservatives. It also lacks additives that create the long-lasting or waterproof effects that are found in synthetic makeup.  Producers of organic makeup also avoid animal testing with these cosmetics.

Despite the higher price tag often associated with these products, there are affordable options available. Organic Wear by Physician’s Formula carries bronzers, powders, moisturizers and lip glosses that can be found at drugstores ranging from $7 to $14.

Maybelline’s line of Mineral Makeup has an assortment of foundations, concealers and illuminators. They provide great SPF and absorb shine for women with oily skin. The mineral powder is priced around $9, cheaper than many inorganic powders.

Burt’s Bees has long been known for wonderful skin care products. The company also carries a line of lip glosses, tints and lipsticks that are infused with beneficial ingredients like Vitamin E, beeswax and coconut oil. Not only does Burt’s Bees sell amazing products, but they are affordable as well.

The daily use of synthetic skin care and beauty substances can lead to a buildup of chemicals in your body and damage the skin after prolonged periods of usage. Other drawbacks associated with conventional products are excessively dry and flaky skin, sinusitis, asthma, rashes and damage to the skin, hair and eyes from overexposure to harmful chemicals.

Organic cosmetics are ideal for women with sensitive skin. The absence of harsh chemicals decreases the likelihood of breakouts. Organic products are full of vitamins and nutrients that help enrich your skin. Aloe vera contains healing properties and moisturizes the skin. Shea butter hydrates skins. Green tea extract reduces the signs of aging. Vitamin C, E and B17 aid in moisturizing the skin and act as preservatives.

The application of organic makeup is also said to be much easier. When applying natural makeup, only one tool is required — a brush. A sponge, which is often used with synthetic makeup, is unnecessary when using natural cosmetics. It’s also easier to find the right shade with organic makeup and is suitable with all skin types.

Lastly, organic makeup offers sun protection. Major ingredients in natural products offer protection against sun damage and premature aging of the skin, decreasing the risk of skin cancer.
