Central Iowa Sewing Guild’s annual style show scheduled with potluck dinner

Check out the stylish garments Iowa’s top sewers have created at the Central Iowa Sewing Guild’s annual style show. The show will happen Dec. 13 at 9 a.m. followed by a potluck lunch.

Sewing Guild members will be modeling garments they have made. Clothing types range from sportswear, to dressy dresses, suits and coats. Many of the participants are Iowa State Fair winners as well. The event is casual and audience members are free to ask questions during the modeling.

Most of the people are expert seamstresses and are always looking for the creative edge. People tend to use commercial patterns from the main pattern companies, such as Vogue, and Butterick, but many in the group like to use patterns from independent designers as well such as The Sewing Workshop (http://www.sewingworkshop.com).

Members said they like to put their own spin on the patterns. The Sewing Guild skews a bit older, but students do participate often, and the members said people are very sharp and talented sewers. The group sponsors award winners at the 4-H Awardrobe competition at Iowa State in August.

The annual style show is a free event and will be at Trinity United Methodist Church, 102 Lynwood Drive, Huxley, IA 50124. Call 708.732.5937 or go to centraliowaasg.org for more information.
