ISU volleyball suffers heartbreaking five-set loss at Baylor

At the halfway point of conference play, the search for ISU volleyball’s first Big 12 road win continues after a heartbreaking loss to Baylor.

Prone to getting off to slow starts in several matches this season, the Cyclones (11-8, 3-5 Big 12) were able to reverse course in jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the match.

The quick start was not sustained, however, as the Bears (12-11, 2-6 Big 12) dominated the final three sets to win a five-set battle (20-25, 19-25, 25-16, 25-21, 15-10).

After tying the Big 12 record for digs in a match (43) in Iowa State’s last match against Kansas on Oct. 22, junior libero Caitlin Nolan recorded 35 digs to post her second-highest total of the year and to lead the match.

Sophomore outside hitter Ciara Capezio also had a strong night statistically, posting a double-double for Iowa State with 16 kills and 10 digs.

Nolan and Capezio’s play was unable to lead the Cyclones to victory, however, as Baylor won the hitting percentage battle .146 to .118 and committed seven fewer errors.

Starting for Baylor was former Cyclone Andie Malloy, who transferred after her freshman season at Iowa State. The junior outside hitter led the match with three services aces to go with 19 digs and eight kills on the night.

Iowa State’s next matchup will come against No. 2 Texas on Nov. 2 at 2 p.m. at Hilton Coliseum.
