Common Ground: Talking About Belief, a panel on freedom of religion and beliefs, featured panelists representing different religions. The panelists consisted of a Hindu, a Christian, a Zen Buddhist, an Atheist and a Jew. Panelists answered questions about their own religions and beliefs at this panel Monday in the Sun Room of the Memorial Union. This event was a part of First Amendment Days 2019, which is a week-long celebration of the First Amendment put on by the Iowa State Daily and the Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication.

Laura Bestler, program coordinator II at the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching, accepts a certificate for being a Women Impacting ISU 2019 calendar honoree. Bestler was recognized under the words “problem solver” as she works with students and faculty across campus. The Women Impacting ISU 2019 calendar was debuted at the end of a reception held to honor those selected to represent Iowa State in the Sun Room of the Memorial Union on Jan. 16. Free copies of the calendar were distributed following the event.

Erika Hart talked about her experience with her mother’s death. Hart said, “When my mom passed I didn’t see anyone else my age having people’s parents pass, who looked like me, so it made me beg the question, where are all the black people?” Ericka Hart, activist, cancer survivor and sexuality educator, gave a lecture, “Where Are All the Black People,” on Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. in the Great Hall.
