Simpson seeks ‘direction’ from IRHA’s program

Members of the Simpson Residence Hall Association will be sitting in on Thursday’s meeting of the Inter-Residence Hall Association to learn how they can improve their program, IRHA President Keith Twombley said.

“Simpson College Residence Hall Association is going through some tough times and they need some direction,” Twombley said. “The idea is, they’re going to come watch our meeting and talk to us afterward and try to learn from example.”

He said the IRHA adviser, John Shertzer, contacted Simpson’s RHA adviser and invited them to sit in.

“He told them we’ve got a great program here and invited them over,” Twombley said. “Since we’re close, they decided to come over and see what we’re doing.”

The organization will also be voting on whether or not to give $600 to Lyon Hall’s Barker House residents participating in Varieties.

Sarai Arnold, representative for Barton, Lyon, Freeman and Fisher-Nickell Halls and author of the bill, said the money would be used by the group for costumes, props and set materials.

“The Varieties team that is located in Barker House is the only non-greek association that participates in Varieties,” she said,

She said because the team was made of residence hall students, it was a good cause for IRHA to support.

“[The Barker Team] is prohibited from fundraising and they can’t get funding from GSB [Government of the Student Body], so I think it’s only logical and reasonable that IRHA takes care of its residents,” Arnold said.

Natasha Krentz, chair of the National Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls 2004 bid team, is also scheduled to speak.

The meeting will be at 7 p.m. in the Oak Room of the Memorial Union.
