Donations from ISU community collected

The Government of the Student Body has established a disaster relief fund for victims of the terrorist attacks in New York City and Washington, D.C.

The goal of the fund-raising campaign is to raise $10,000 for the American Red Cross. GSB kicked off the effort by donating $2,000 from the Senate Discretionary Fund, said Andy Tofilon, president of GSB.

“We think it is a realistic goal,” said Melissa Brunia, GSB treasurer. “If everyone gives a couple of dollars, we could raise more, though.”

The idea for starting a relief fund came from students who were expressing concern about how they could help, Tofilon said.

“We are asking for a $1 or more from each student,” he said. “We will be all around campus and giving everybody an ample opportunity to get involved.”

Tables will be set up near the Memorial Union, Parks Library, Curtiss, Carver, Black Engineering, Gilman and Kildee Halls from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday.

In the evenings, GSB senators and cabinet members will be at the residence hall dining centers collecting money.

People who would like to volunteer can stop by the GSB office in the East Office Space of the MU or any of the tables around campus, Tofilon said.
