Sam Wong wrong; GSB hard-working

Steve Skutnik

Has Sam Wong ever BEEN to a Government of the Student Body meeting, or much less ever found out exactly what they do?

Given the nature of his previous uninformed columns – especially Monday’s piece, “Organizations funded by students, not GSB” – probably not.

Yes, there are senators there to “pad their resumes” as you so say.

There are also a lot of students – STUDENTS like you and me that are there working there asses off trying to improve things around campus.

It is unfair and quite frankly WRONG to write the two off as the same, not just in GSB – but in all student governments around campus.

As for student fees money – would you, Mr. Wong, like to sacrifice not one but two (or more) weekends divvying up a limited pool of student fees money to equally deserving groups?

Would YOU like to take time out of YOUR busy schedule to do it?

No? That’s what GSB exists for – because a few people DO do it.

Hence, funded by GSB -because GSB does the dirty work that you are most obviously unwilling to do.

Should we abolish student fees?

That might be an option.

But do YOU want to pay dues for every club you want to participate in – even once?

Do YOU want to pay for a Daily every time you pick one up around campus?

I don’t, and that’s why I don’t think student fees should go. So Sam Wong, do a little research before you go proselytizing.

There are a good number of students who CARE about what goes on around this campus who really try to improve things within the framework of student government.

It’s not hard to find them.
