Find the best eyebrow shape

Eyebrows are the frames to the face. For most individuals, it’s sometimes hard to know what eyebrow shape fits their facial features. Elizabeth Rivera, a cosmetic student studying to be an esthetician at Des Moines Area Community College, gives her tips to understanding the proper ways to shape and shift one’s eyebrows.

“You always want to find the shape that works best for you or a shape that follows your natural growth and even your face,” Rivera said. “There are many fancy kits out there to help you shape and fill your eyebrows.”

Rivera shared eyebrow hairs are naturally fair toward the center of forehead and are naturally darker as they grow toward the ears.

“Typically, when filling your eyebrows, you want to start from the middle toward the end,” Rivera said. “You want this area to be the darkest part that is filled.”

Rivera said individuals should never want to achieve an eyebrow shape that is not natural to them because it may not work in their favor.

“You can fill your eyebrows with a fancy kit,” Rivera said. “There are also very affordable eyebrow pencils or even eyeliners.”

When using an eyebrow pencil, Rivera said to fill in brows first and follow up with an eyebrow brush.

“You always want to brush through your eyebrows after a filling to avoid any harsh lines and to evenly distribute the product,” Rivera said.

When finding the best shape, Rivera said one should find the shape they feel most comfortable in.

“I believe for achieving that perfect brow shape that works for you, you must work with what you got,” Rivera said. “Not everyone’s eyebrows grow the same way or in the same direction.”

Some individuals may notice their eyebrows are more arched.

“Creating an arch can be hard for some people,” Rivera said. “Not every eyebrow can achieve an arch, it may not work for you because your hair simply may not grow that way in this circumstance, creating an arch by filling it in actually may not work for you.”

Eyebrows are meant to look natural and are not always exactly the same. Rivera said to stay mindful that this process will take a lot of practice.

“Your eyebrows are sisters, never twins, make these work for you,” Rivera said. “Never compare yours to others because you will not have the same features to work with.”
