Fitness Challenge: Torey Robinson, week 1

Weak+or+strong

Weak or strong

Torey Robinson

Excuses, excuses. That’s all I’ve got for you this week.

I was too tired. I was too busy. It was too cold. I had too much homework. I ate terrible, so there was no point going to run. I didn’t feel like it.

We’ve all got reasons for avoiding the gym, but it all comes down to one thing: a lack of motivation.

But why is that? Why, even though I want to achieve my fitness goals, am I coming up with reasons not to hit the rec?

I want to become healthier so that I am more comfortable with what I look like by the time I graduate in May. I want to be able to run a 5K without walking. I want running to become apart of my workout routine.

No one else is going to push me — it’s my goal. I can sit and complain about not being in shape, but at the end of the day I can only blame myself. I didn’t do what it takes.

I received The Bounce Back Book as a gift a few years back. I’ve skimmed through the inspiring stories a couple times, but one quote stands out:

“In life, you always have the choice: Be weak or be strong.”

It’s a quote that hangs on my desk and I forget too often in situations like this.

Becoming a runner will be hard work, but only I can do it. I have to find the motivation myself and be strong enough to push myself.

I hope I’ll have better news to report next week.
